4You Get What You Pay For
By Leslie Hlavaty
If you like horses, then this is a great game to buy for the price... As long as you don't expect a lot out of it.You can't change your avatar's appearance: You're stuck as a blond female, which isn't so bad, because after all, the focus is on the horse. At the beginning of the game, you can choose your first horse from a variety of breeds: Selle Francais, Anglo-Arab, Arabian, Akhel-Teke, Mustang, Zebra, and a Unicorn. It doesn't matter which breed you choose, they all look almost identical: Some have different coat colors, and the zebra and unicorn have obvious differences. All breeds also have identical stats, so it doesn't matter which breed you pick. The goal of the game is simple: Win the World Championships in three categories: Show Jumping, Cross Country, and Endurance. As you train, you'll win money (oddly, you win the same amount of money for placing first in a training show as you do a regional show, or a national show), which you can use to buy equipment for your horse, and clothes for Blondie. I wasn't very pleased with the equipment and clothes selection: Most high-statted equipment was pink, and everything had a flower on it. Again, it's a horse game, so it's going to be directed at girls... I just wished I could coordinate colors better on my stallions. You get to ride in two areas: Europe (a forest), and The United States (A Desert). It's a charming enough game, if a bit repetitive, but if you're looking for a cheap game that will keep you amused, Planet Horse is the way to go.

4Simple and Fun
By Rebecca Hardman
As the owner of many horse games that involves mysteries and storylines, I was pleasantly surprised with this game. It was very user friendly and simple. There were many options to choose from to customize your player and your horse and there were also a good amount of events so it didn't get boring. The gameplay was nice, the controlling was easy. The graphics are very nice and realistic. However, the graphics look exactly like the game Horse Life for PC but it was still very good. If your looking for a simple horse game without the pointless storylines and tasks, than this is a good game.

4Fun game, although I have a long list of improvements I'd like to see
By Lori Freeman
First, let me say that this is the first and only horse video game I've ever played, although that will probably change soon! Also, I find that I'm feeling very wordy today, so for a summary, skip to the end.In this game you take the role of a girl who arrives at a stud farm to begin training. You can choose her name, but her appearance is fixed (a blond, blue-eyed teenager/young adult). Once you start the game you are given a horse to start with. You can choose from 7 different "breeds," including a zebra or unicorn (?!), but for the most part they only differ in coat color. The colors are "piebald" (which is actually technically skewbald since it's brown and white); mouse grey (with black points), dark bay, a slightly lighter chestnut, black, palomino, and appaloosa. (It does seem to me that at least the shape of the horses' heads vary from breed to breed.) You can make a few customizations such as face markings and socks, choose stallion/mare/gelding (although the dialogue always refers to the horse as "him"), and "temperament," in which you can choose where the horse will excel - stamina, jumping, speed, or a balanced mix. You can also name the horse.Once you get into the game, you'll step through a couple of tutorial-type tasks before all the features are unlocked. These features, starting with the first available, are:Rides: This includes outings in the countryside, in which you are tasked with collecting a certain number of items (by running over them) before your horse's stamina is depleted; and "endurance" races, which are rides that follow a certain course that you must complete before stamina runs out. (They only run about 2 minutes.) Movement is accomplished by clicking on the ground where you want the horse to go - the farther away, the faster the pace will be. You can also click ahead of the horse and drag to guide the horse along.Show Jumping: Follow a course with jumps. As the horse approaches the jump, it goes into slow-motion and three "buttons" show up on the ground. Your task is to click the mouse when the horse's hoof touches a button (it turns blue at the same time). Then a brief cutscene shows the horse and rider going over the jump before you take control again.Shop: You can buy riding clothes and tack here. Some items are purely decorative, while others increase your or the horse's stats. (By the way, stats are shown in the form of five-petaled flowers, with different-colored centers indicating which stat it is.) The equipment has a slightly annoying tendency to run to pink and flowers, but I guess that's to be expected, given the target audience. New items are unlocked as you complete more courses/competitions. Coins are earned by running the courses, and you can run courses over and over to earn more coins. Later in the game, you get the ability to purchase additional horses.Horse Care: Every so often (not after every outing), you need to brush or shampoo your horse. Brushing is definitely more tedious than shampooing (which is unlocked later), but still only takes about 30 seconds.Stable: Where you can equip the tack you buy, and later switch horses.Locker Room: Where you change clothes.Cross Country: This combines jumping with a run through the countryside.**SUMMARY**With little storyline to speak of, this game centers mainly around advancing through levels of competition in jumping, cross country, and endurance riding, and getting more and better gear for yourself and your horse. There are two locations, a green country setting in Europe and a desert setting in the U.S. All the events take place on one of these two maps. The settings are pretty but not breathtaking; the graphics looked sort of dated to me, although the horse animations are really well done. The game is basically open-ended because of the ability to buy new horses with new abilities (e.g., a strong horse that can complete all the endurance-based events with ease) and train them up; but the events can be completed in a couple of days - there was a maximum of eight events for each discipline in each location, and cross country only had a total of seven including both locations. I didn't find it particularly challenging, but it was quite enjoyable and relaxing partly for that reason. You can download a free one-hour trial of this game at bigfishgames dot com.Improvements I'd love to see:* Ability to choose different looks for your character* More variations among the breed appearances and/or coats* Instead of choosing stats without reference to breed, having each breed start with a certain base stat allocation - e.g., the Arabian would have a higher base stamina than other breeds, Selle Francais would start with higher jumping ability, Akhal-Teke would have well-rounded stats, etc.* Getting rid of the "endurance" races - a two-minute endurance race is silly.* More locations and MANY more events* Pleasure rides with a lot more fun things to do and discover* Dressage* Updated graphics* Stamina that depletes at different rates depending on whether you're racing at a full gallop or cantering along easilyPS. If anyone would like to recommend another horse game that you think I might enjoy, I'd be grateful if you'd do so in the comments!

3Major Issue outweighs the pro's of this system
By Mark Ozeroff
I have had this for 20 months. It was a 5 star console until recently, I experienced some flickering of the video which was not attributed to the hdmi cable or tv(sound was fine). The next morning I couldnt get any video or sound. I said fine, the hdmi input crapped out. Ill just use the HD AV cables. Well soon I find out that the xbox does not display picture or The rebate only covers the flashing red light problem for 3 years, but no other issues. I called the geek squad and they said the solution for any output problems is to buy a new console.I used this mostly for gaming. I had about 90GB free when it died. If I could go back I would get the regular xbox because the free space is pointless if the console dies within the first 2 years. I am very angry that this problem is not covered for longer. I am a heavy gamer so I think I got good use out of it. However, something this unreliable should not cost this much!

2Loved the System when it Worked.
By BOTH RULE
This system rocked when it worked. It worked for a year and a half before 3 rings of death got me. Sent it to Microsoft for repair, 2 weeks later received another console, but it wouldn't turn on. Sent that one back, waited 5 weeks, received my original console back. This time instead of three rings, the console would not power on. Sent that one back. 2 weeks later, received the exact same console, still would not power. WTF? I feel as if no one checked it out, they just repackaged it and sent it right back. Went back to MS website to request another repair, but my console's registration number won't work.So basically I buy this system, spend hundreds on games, then system dies still under warranty, yet it doesn't get repaired or replaced. So now I have a dead system and an email to microsoft demanding an explanation. The said thing is I really liked this system. I do have a PS3, which by the way died on me as well, but that one was past warranty, so I bought a slim instead. So far no problems with the PS3 slim. But I had way more Xbox games, so now I have to buy only PS3 games.I am not a fanboy of any one system. I like having best of both worlds, but how can I remain an Xbox fan if I keep getting screwed by Microsoft?

5Great Configuration, Great Console
By Bradford Schmidt
A lot of people have written about the pros and cons of the PS3 vs. XBOX 360 vs. Wii. I'm not bothering with that, and assume you can find that information at elsewhere. I'm also assuming you can read all about why the PS3 would or would not fit your needs.Instead, I'd like this review to explain what exactly this configuration is (there's a lot of confusion about that,) and why I think it hits the sweet spot. Basically, there are currently 2 versions of the PS3 on the market now. Ignoring the size of the drive for a second (because you can always swap the drive anyway, and it has no real bearing on the rest of the specs) think of them as Version A (currently available - or not as the case may be - in the PlayStation 3 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack) and Version B (this one.)The first thing that you need to understand is that there are three relevant differences between these two versions besides the included bundle and the price (the MGS one is $499 from amazon, more from third parties.)Difference #1: Version A (MGS pack) is backward compatible with PS2 games while this one is NOT (they are both backward compatible with PS1 games however.)Difference #2: Version A has 4 USB ports as well as memory card slots, while this version has only 2 USB ports and NO memory card slots.Difference #3: AND THIS FOR ME IS BIG: Version A has the older and larger 90nm Cell processor, while this one has the smaller (and some say more reliable) 65nm Cell processor. Power consumption on this unit is lower as well, dropping from 200 Watts to 135 watts. The end result is a machine that runs cooler and, according to all reports as well as my personal experience, much quieter. An extremely relevant factor if you watch movies with it.For those that have been looking for a while, this is basically the 40GB machine that was offered recently, with a larger hard drive and an upgraded controller - they replaced the basic sixaxis controller with the Dualshock 3 controller (which means it has rumble.)Now Version A is packaged with Metal Gear Solid. It has an 80GB drive like this one, and the same controller. The big differences are listed above. Until this configuration was released, the larger hard drive and Dualshock controller were 2 of the 4 reasons many people felt the MGS pack was worth the additional $100. Those two factors are now eliminated. The remaining differences are the backward compatibility with PS2 games and the MGS game itself, which can of course be bought separately. So to sum it up, if you NEED PS2 compatibility, you might want to grab the MGS pack if you can get one - that or keep your old PS2. For new buyers though, and for all of the people that are going to just play PS3 games, as well as avid movie watchers, this particular configuration is fantastic. You get the big drive, the good controller, PLUS the cooler running chip, a quieter machine and a system that uses about 33% less power. And ok - just to satisfy the basic requirements of a review, I'll list some other nice stuff: It includes a Blu-ray DVD player (one of those runs almost as much as, or more than, this entire box), the online play is FREE, wireless connectivity is built in (you don't have to buy an additional piece as with some others), reliability has been quite good (much better than some others), there are some great PS3-only titles, and you can stream media to it from your PC. There's more, but there are plenty of people outlining it.As always, do your research and see what's best for you. Maybe the 360-only titles are must haves for you, or maybe your family fits a Wii. We have a Wii and I love it. But I also love my PS3, and in my opinion this configuration is the one to get (this month anyway.)

4How to make it near-complete
By A. Dent
Necessary disclosure: I do not own this model. I have what used to be a 60GB model, recently upgraded to 320GB - the gold standard. As compared to the 60GB model:______________________________________________+ less expensive (I paid $599 for my 60GB PS3)+ 33% more storage+ needs less power+ dual shock controller (rumble)- no memory card interfaces- 2 USB ports vs. 4 USB ports on the 60GB- no PS2 compatibility______________________________________________This model comes with an 80GB drive. This is nice because, most would agree, 80GB is more than 60GB. If you feel that the extra 20GB is a big deal, maybe you should think again. I upgraded my 60GB to 320GB because I was about to run out of space, with only 10GB or so left. One month or so later, I'm using more than 80GB already - just downloaded the Ratchet and Clank minigame from PSN and it alone needs about 3GB. My advice is to buy this model and upgrade it yourself. It's (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice if you Google for it.If you are on the upgrade path, $80 would buy you a 320GB drive. I used the Western Digital WD3200BEVT 320 GB Scorpio Sata 5400 Rpm 8MB 2.5 inch myself but that was back in June/July and I paid about $150 then; you could get much larger drives for less now. 500GB drives are available for less than $100 and you should try to get one of those if you are planning to store lots of videos. One that I tested would be the 500GB 2.5" Sata Drive which replaced my laptop's 60GB little drive and I helped a friend upgrade his own PS3 with. The nice thing about upgrading your disk is that you are also going to be left with a perfectly good 80GB or $160GB drive which you can place into a cheap enclosure, and the StarTech AT2510U2 InfoSafe 2.5-Inch USB/SATA Hard Drive Enclosure worked for me. I am using the free leftover drive as a backup device for family photos.Upgrading the disk is (relatively) easy and you can find a lot of advice on the Net. Search for "PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Upgrade (HOWTO)" for videos that should help you decide if you are comfortable with upgrading. If upgrading is the first thing you do (before installing games or uploading personal files), everything becomes very easy because you need not worry about backups or restores. I upgraded my box in a couple of hours WITH the backup/restore steps. The lack of memory card interfaces is annoying but you can get around it. Copy your stuff to a USB drive or flash drive and... problem solved. You can then upload your things through the USB. It's somewhat inconvenient but it's no big deal.My old (10 months) 60GB model has 4 USB slots and I am using all of them. One for the PS3 Eye (camera), a second has a wireless keyboard dongle, the third is where the racing wheel plugs in and the last one I use to charge controllers. Can you live with 2 slots? I suppose you can but there's going to be some plugging/unplugging if you begin adding peripherals. I suppose you could get one of those USB ports multiplexers. They're ugly but... it's doable.PS2 compatibility... can't get it. Sorry. I don't play PS2 games but my kids do. In fact, they just bought some Sonic game a couple of days ago. I was surprised but... de gustibus. They're also playing Kingdom Hearts and Destroy All Humans. This model comes with a couple of improvements over the gold standard. It burns less electricity, which is a good thing for the rain forests, keeping them cool and maybe you save a few dollars on your electric bill. And, of course you get the advanced controller.Briefly:- If you are planning to upgrade, the 80GB model is the way to go because it is selling for $100 less than the larger disk version and you can use the savings to pay for your disk upgrade- Get yourself a USB port multiplexer if you need more than 2 ports- Transfer your photos to flash drives to get around the missing memory card interfaces- Or or, even better, to address both the USB and the memory card issues, get the Playstation 3 Media Hub+ for 2 extra USB ports AND a card reader- Keep your PS2 if you have one and still wish to play PS2 games in the future.- Enjoy your new PS3.

5Best Blue Ray Player on the Market! (AWESOME UNIQUE FEATURES)
By John Schinter
The Playstation 3 is an incredible Blue Ray Player, that has features NOT available in any other Blue Ray Player. I am not a game player - and simply bought this unit as a Blue Ray and DVD player. However - on comparison, there are so many benefits compared to other Blue Ray players. Here are the surprise benefits you get from this INCREDIBLE technology vs. a regular Blue Ray Player:1. Picture Quality - SUPERB (Easily compares to most expensive Blue Ray Players)2. REGULAR DVD's PLAY IN A HIGHER RESOLUTION - Incredible difference to a regular DVD player.3. Wireless INTERNET Connection - Surf web on your TV. (NO WIRES REQUIRED)4. Automatic BLUE RAY format Updates (FREE and AUTOMATIC) - Upgrades as technology changes.5. HARD Drive (80 GB) - Store movies, music, etc.6. Beautiful Black Console - Doesn't look like a game player on shelf.7. EASY to set-up (Ready in a few minutes)8. LOWER PRICED - All these unique features, at a lower price than the other Blue Ray playersI have no idea why anyone would ever consider a standard BLUE RAY or DVD player once you have had a chance to try out the features of the PS3. Having the internet on our TV allows us full access to news, weather, radio, music video's, etc.I was told that low price BLUE RAY players cannot play many movies and DVD's because the BLUE RAY format is constantly changing - and the Playstation 3 is the ONLY BLUE RAY unit to have automatic updates that will correct for new Blue Ray formats in the future.NO COMPARISON - Hands down BEST BLUE RAY Player with the most features on the market!HIGEST POSSIBLE https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOXDxiR3jehghEhIMdkZOprbcG4YmtUpDCSe6EwsgjJHR2e-RTtJfOCE5jVVRW0eX1Om17BgCEUteU8cURGl-YGAilHMIJwM1cxQX6dN3YfgU-OGINiK0pxB4VFOlRnqrK3BkXlZIMB1g/s1600/rating+4-5.png.........

4Review of the 5th Anniversary Edition...
By Chris Holman
This is not a review of the game. The game is awesome and if you have not played it yet then you should definately buy it and play it. You won't be dissappointed. The answer is should you shell out the $30 for the limited edition 5th Anniversary package? The answer...it depends. If you are a collector and love the game and want a Steelbook bound product that will increase in price then buy it. Bethesda is releasing 200,000 copies and that is all. Once they are gone you will pay double or triple on eBay. The map is nice and the documentary is as well but if you are like me then you will watch it once and put it away (never to be watched again). The game is the exact same disc as the GOTY edition. It has the same bugs but still highly playable. You will log 500+ gaming hours to beat it and all the excpansion packs. I personally only scratched the surface and am looking forward to going back and playing this beautiful immersive campaign some more. So there you have it. Nothing new except shiny collector's edition packaging which will be worth a lot in about 6 months. Good luck and I hope this review has answered some lingering questions.

4A fine collection with a few missing elements.
By Austin
The Oblivion 5th Anniversary Collection is great for Oblivion fans and new comers alike. The Steelbook is beautiful and makes a great collectors item for all the Elder Scrolls fans out there and this package includes Knights of Nine + The Shivering Isles making a complete TES IV experience. There are two issues with this collection though.1. The $10 Skyrim Cupon is only good if you purchase Skyrim for $59.99 and get a strategy guide on the same receipt.2. This collection does not come with any of the plug ins such as Mehrunes Razor, Horse Armor, and the many extra houses that were optional DLC for the 360 and PC.

5If you've never played Oblivion, this is a great starting point

I had never played an Elder Scrolls game, but when I saw the 5th Anniversary Edition at Best Buy for $29.99 I decided to pick it up. I also started researching The Elder Scrolls series and Oblivion.Others have detailed how great the game is, as well as what's included with this edition. So I won't rehash that. Let me just say this:I've put in about 120 hours so far, and I am nowhere near done. And I have yet to install either Shivering Isles or Knights of The Nine. I can easily see reaching 300 hours of gameplay. For $30, that's not too shabby. The game is fantastic, and this edition is the way to go - the steelbook case is cool (and durable), the documentary is interesting (although fleeting) and the price is right.Highly recommended.

1Do not buy this if you are a Supreme Commander fan
By PC Gaming Fan
WARNING: It has come to my attention that there is an organized campaign to manipulate the review scores for this game, with posters on the official forums attempting to recruit others to create multiple accounts and write 5 star reviews. Obviously it hasn't been very effective, but be aware that the review scores have been slightly increased by this shilling. I highly encourage you to download the demo and find out the truth.Supreme Commander 2 is the latest game in a disturbing trend gripping the gaming industry: more and more developers simply have no regard at all for the fans who put them on the map. If you enjoyed Supreme Commander and Forged Alliance for everything that made them unique, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. It is complete and utter rubbish, in essence a parody of the masterful original. The game has been dumbed down to be almost unrecognizable, although some of the good elements like extreme map zooming and a good unit patrol interface remain. Those who prefer more micro-heavy games like Command and Conquer may still get some enjoyment out of it, but if you want a small scale RTS there are many of them better than Supreme Commander 2.The problems start with Tiers. In Supreme Commander 1, there were three tiers of units, plus experimental units. The first tier units were like little ants, useful for little other than early game harassment but incapable of dealing any real damage. Second tier units were capable fighters, and third tier units were pretty powerful. By the end of the game, you could have hundreds upon hundreds of units out, yet it was still possible for a single experimental unit to slice through your entire army and kill your commander. It was thrilling to devote your entire economy for a protracted period of time just to get that experimental out, and you would cheer for it as it completely shifted the battle. Supreme Commander 2 throws all of that away. The units now fall roughly along the lines of the dozens of C&C style RTS games, with experimental units being roughly as powerful as Mammoth Tanks. I saw an experimental unit get taken down by five gunships. FIVE. Now there is no longer any strategy in deciding what to build. Whereas before, you would need to make hard choices about whether to devote significant resources to tech up and devote a large portion of your economy to build single units or structures, now you can pump out experimental units in under 5 minutes from the start of a game. In other words, Supreme Commander 2 is now just your standard RTS, but with units far more generic than most. The macro has been scaled back dramatically, yet most units are still one-dimensional so there is little need for micromanagement since you won't affect the outcome of a skirmish. As for resources, the great system where you used mass to build things and power to, well, power them is gone. Structures and units no longer use up power by being in play. Instead, power is just like mass. When you build something, power is deducted from your cache and that's it. In other words, you can build shield generators and artillery all over the place with no consequence since it costs nothing to support them. This means even more incentive to turtle since a surgical strike on any one area of your base isn't going to damage anything you can't easily replace. In Supreme Commander 1, it was at least a possibility that your generators would be taken out, rendering you defenseless as the shields and turrets shut down. To make matters worse, the old system where resources were deducted as units and structures were built is GONE. Now resources are deducted immediately when you queue up unit production or structures, which means you can no longer queue up a massive base and then let an engineer do his thing. This was one of the two or three most important aspects of Supreme Commander and it is completely ruined. Now there is a third resource: research. Points are produced by buildings and can be spent in one of five overly convoluted tech trees. This is a terrible system that replaces the tiers from Supreme Commander. Unlocking the best units is too easy, and the pace of the game is killed by having to constantly open up the tech menu to unlock things. It also discourages adapting your tactics to the situation because there are so many minor upgrades that you'll need to choose between specializing in ground, air,or naval units since it will take a very long match to power up all three. It was just flat out stupid to have a menu-based system instead of tying upgrades to buildings. Some games like Battle for Middle Earth make it work because they don't have as many upgrades and don't require constantly accessing the menu, but it doesn't work here.Normally a sequel is supposed to be bigger, badder, and better in every way. Supreme Commander 2 takes a step back in almost every aspect. The graphics are scaled back. There are far less unit types and the unit cap is far lower. The maps are much smaller. They aren't small just in comparison to the original, they're actually some of the smallest maps I've seen in a RTS. The campaign is very short, with 18 missions that take around 10-30 minutes each. Normally a RTS with such a low mission number will at least have 1-2 hour missions. And as for the much vaunted "story" and "cinematic experience" that was supposedly added? It's terrible. The CG is just video of the normal in-game assets, so it actually looks worse than the gameplay if you have a decent computer. The characters are insufferable, the dialogue terrible, and the story paper thin. The only positive thing I can say is that the art design of the maps is improved. There is very little to recommend Supreme Commander 2. If you like the original, you're better off playing that, and if you didn't, there are many better RTS to spend your time and money on. To add insult to injury though, once you own this terrible game, you OWN it. That's right, Steam is required for this game, and it will be tied to your account forever. I look at this as a shrewd and cynical move by a developer that knows the market would otherwise be flooded with used copies because most who buy this game will not want to keep it.-------Addendum: If I could revise my score down to 0 stars after what I've seen of the online play after writing the original review, I would. Matches end one of two ways almost every time. In a 2 v 2 or larger match, multiple players will rush with their commanders at the start and kill one of the enemy commanders 2 on 1. Then repeat with the other players. Total match time is around 5 minutes. Otherwise, the match will end in a swarm of gunships due to the weak anti air options. There is no reason to build anything else because there aren't any units or structures in the game that, for the same resource cost, can kill a swarm of gunships faster than they can kill a commander. Also, to clarify something I said earlier, in SINGLE player it is very easy to unlock the best experimental units and pump them out in mass quantities. In online play however, they barely play any role at all. Anyone who tries to build them will probably lose because they are not as effective as normal units, dollar for dollar. There is no point in trying different strategies. Online play is ruled by basic units and whoever has the bigger blob of them wins.

2Why would you do this to us, Chris Taylor?
By Informed Buyer
If you liked the intricate economy and extreme scale of Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance, you probably won't like this game.Years ago, I heard about Total Annihilation. It was similar to other RTS games, but on an absolutely massive scale. I loved carrying on coordinated assaults of multiple groups of hundreds of units each. It redefined how I looked at all RTS games. In 2007, I got Supreme Commander expecting more of the same. I couldn't have been more pleased. Incredibly huge maps, beautiful graphics, an unbelievable difference in the size and power of units - everything I could hope for in a large-scale RTS. Some maps were so big, that it could take slower units 10-15 minutes to cross it. Some units took so long to build that it could take an hour for a single low level engineer to complete them. After you completed this massive unit (they were called "Experimentals"), it was always a pleasure to watch it slowly plod across the map and take down hundreds of units and half of the enemy base. Economy and assault required substantial planning and coordination. These were all possible because the game had an excellent interface, and a lot of thought was put into streamlining economy and mobilizing assaults. All of this worked together to provide an extremely rewarding experience. I can say without hesitation that Supreme Commander provided you with the most satisfaction of any RTS when carrying out a successful assault.Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance was more of the same, but better. They added to the game, optimized and improved it.Chris Taylor (the creator of these games) had outdone himself each time, so it never even occurred to me that Supreme Commander 2 would be anything less than magnificent. I preordered it without hesitation. The best way to describe the changes from the last game is its been massively "dumbed down". Economic planning is less significant because you must have all of the required resources before you can begin building. Maps are positively tiny compared to the old game. Not nearly as many units to choose from (even if you ignore the lower tech levels in the previous games). Experimentals aren't nearly as powerful or daunting. They only take a couple of minutes to build, and they aren't nearly as satisfying to use. There's less variation in power and size of all units. Almost all of the sense of scale from the old games has been eliminated. The game feels like it was simplified in every way (graphics, concept, scale, complexity, and multiplayer), so that it could run on the Xbox 360.Gameplay aside, there are other problems with it - especially for people with poor internet connections. Chris Taylor has always been a proponent of LAN play. Both Supreme Commanders were LAN playable with one copy of the game. His previous RTS, Demigod, was also LAN playable with one copy, and the instruction manual even joked about it. Supreme Commander 2 has no LAN play.Steam (the digital distribution platform) was, unexpectedly, also a problem. Steam has its problems, but overall, I love it. I use Steam every day. But less than half of the game was actually included on the disk. The disk install was a little over than 2GB, and the "update" was more than the install. I'm sorry, but I don't consider a 2.5GB "update" on the day of release acceptable. I couldn't play it at all on release day. I had to wait till I went to another place with a good internet connection, download it, back it up on a USB drive, and restore the backup on my computer.Positives - Excellent game interface - slightly more refined than the previous games - Glassy smooth graphics on middle of the road hardware. - Good campaign (so far) - Not possible to bring your production speed to a haltNegatives - Overall lack of large scale - Substantially fewer units - Simplistic economy requires more maintenance - Steam can be a problem for some - No LAN playIf you haven't played Supreme Commander:Forged Alliance, I would recommend it over Supreme Commander 2. I will not be buying any more Supreme Commander games unless there are some MAJOR changes. This is a good RTS, but it just doesn't deserve the name "Supreme Commander".UPDATE 10-7-2010: Against every expectation, 7 months after release, they've addressed at least one of my major complaints about this game - the economy. Now, you can queue up as many units as you like in advance without worrying about having the resources at that moment. From the update description, it seems that it still deducts the full amount immediately upon the start of construction. The old games had a pay-as-it-was-built system. Between, the two, each has its positives and negatives, but this update is a MASSIVE improvement over what the game shipped with.. I'm going to have to play this game again.

1supreme commander 2: the game for the C&C player who doesnt want to give EA any more money
By doktor merkwurdigliebe
i have never been more let down in a game than i was with supreme commander 2. most of what i feel about it has also been posted here, but i want to add just a few things.first off this game is not just a step backwards from supreme commander: it was also a step back from TA which came out well over 10 years ago now and is STILL a great game. supreme commander 2 has slightly better graphics than TA, but that is about it... in terms of game play, it lacks almost all of the things that made TA and supreme commander great and most importantly DIFFERENT than every other game.i wanted this game to be great. i wanted this game to be fun. i wanted this game to expand on the things that made supreme commander and TA before it the greatest games i had ever played.instead what I got is garbage... i got C&C without the high quality movies and plot. if you really want to play a game like this, play the latest command and conquer game. it may be the same thing as C&C 1, and red alert and generals and on and on and on. but at least because they had practice, they did a good job at it. supreme commander 2 tried to make C&C too but since they were abandoning what they were good at to copy something else what came out was crap.
