3A good choice for gamers with a bit of patience
By R. McAtee
(I have not tried any of the online play, so this review is essentially for the base game with the included patches that are otherwise downloadable.)I am a HUGE fan of single-player PC action/adventure RPGs, especially the Elder Scrolls and Gothic titles. Although I have yet to dig into Oblivion's Shivering Isles expansion, I have since tried to find a few "bargain bin" games to play in between Lord of the Rings Online sessions. The Witcher was fantastic, Fable too short and too buggy. I stumbled upon Two Worlds by accident, but I'm glad I did. As another game coming out of Europe, it isn't exactly a household name, and it's certainly not the most original game you'll ever play, but it is quite entertaining . . . if you can tolerate some of its shortcomings. For starters, Two Worlds might not be quite what you'd expect from the box description or installation process, which is sometimes funny and sometimes frustrating. During the installation, there is a splash screen with a busty young woman. If you've played The Witcher or Fable, you might think that to be a hint of in-game "conquests" to look forward to, but it's your SISTER. It's also (after 50 hours of gameplay, anyway) the most revealing display you'll ever see. More on that later. There is a reference to four character classes, but unlike traditional RPGs where you pick a class and stick with it, Two Worlds doesn't adhere to strict character design limitations. For that matter, don't expect much guidance as to what path you take; after a lot of time spent playing, I have yet to find any advantage to straying far from the hack-and-slash route. Magic certainly has its place, and you can of course follow a more archery-heavy ranger approach, but sooner or later you're going to find yourself in the thick of a dungeon brawl where a sword and heavy armor are your best resources. Fans of a rogue/thief/assassin approach will probably be disappointed, as stealth and backstabbing are not viable for getting through most encounters.Much has been said about the use of horses for travel and combat in Two Worlds, mostly negative. While a horse understandably can't scale a sheer cliff or jump over a castle wall, there are situations where your horse will abruptly stop in its tracks or change direction rather than continue where the path slopes a bit or a small obstacle blocks it. This is also true in combat, as your steed will charge headlong through a squad of orcs without hesitation, and then slam on the breaks as you ride past a single opponent. You might have the best armor in the game, but a couple of orc arrows or swipes from a dragon will kill your horse quickly. I also found myself being pursued by guards after my horse apparently trampled innocent bystanders. This wouldn't be so frustrating if the horse wasn't so bloody useful. Pathing issues aside, a horse will greatly reduce travel time, and the damage bonus available when fighting from the saddle can be quite significant. Carving your way through a pack of wolves or slaughtering a band of outlaws is very satisfying - if you don't get hung up halfway through. Different types of horses (including orc lizard-mounts and armored skeletal horses) have varying cargo capacity, and are pretty much a must-have for any dungeon adventurer.Other interesting features are alchemy and equipment enhancement. Alchemical ingredients can be found all through the land, generally fare less scarce than in Gothic. Gems can be found to upgrade weapon damage, and armor and weapons of the same type can (usually) be "stacked" numerous times to increase stats. Unfortunately, some of the gems used in alchemy have misleading stats, because they don't mix to create potions or enhancements, but rather traps and bombs that may not be of particular use to you. Even with your strength boosted by potions and level-ups, carrying capacity is limited, so it's often best to find a safe storage place (abandoned buildings are great for this) and place a portable teleport stone there for easy access. It won't take long for you to accumulate some serious wealth, but some items are best held onto for future upgrades. In terms of story, look and feel, Two Worlds could just as well have the Gothic logo on the front. Seriously, someone unfamiliar with either game could read the plot synopsis from the first Gothic game and play Two Worlds all the way through without realizing they are different games. Orcs are poised to invade human lands, while rival human factions do battle in forests, mountains and villages. The orcs' god is imprisoned, necromancers are up to their usual business, and now an anonymous newcomer has arrived on the scene to do everyone else's dirty work while pursuing some noble plot. There are wolves, lizards, dragons and various other critters cluttering up the Euro-styled landscape, which is liberally stocked with healing shrines, magical monuments and teleport rings. All the standards are here.Unoriginality aside, Two Worlds is fun. There are many, many quests in the villages and cities, and even in the wilderness, all in addition to the main storyline. I found myself engaging mostly in side quests, coming back to the main plot when it looked as though a particular mission might drastically affect faction standing or travel options. Although far more of the game world is dedicated to wilderness and wildlife than to villages, cities and dungeons, there are roads and trails crossing the landscape, with ruins, bandit camps and houses here and there. Even with a very modest hardware configuration and scaled-back visual settings, you can see for incredible distances, often being able to see a route from your current location to a fortress or city that appears to be miles away on the map. Caves, tombs and graveyards are often tucked away off the beaten path, so exploration is key if you want to see your stats and equipment improve without spending your hard-earned coin at the town vendors. The various dungeons are loaded with monsters who carry all sorts of loot, and treasure chests often contain some of the best spoils. This does require some skill with the lockpicks, which can be hard to come by early on.There are few blatant bugs, although nothing as severe as was found in Gothic 3. Stability has been quite good - I've only had one crash in over 50 hours of play. The main problem is that corners were cut here and there. The dialog is atrocious, and the characters' mouths don't even move in a lot of the cut scenes. The character models look quite good in third-person mode, but not so good close-up during the cut scenes. Remember when I mentioned the woman during the initial installation? This far into the game, she's the only female who isn't wrapped up head-to-toe in some overzealous attempt at modesty. This isn't a game that needs to rely on T&A to make it interesting, but in a world where male characters are encased in staggering suits of armor, the females are extremely uninspired. What's worse is that almost none of the female denizens will talk to you, which is something right out of the original Gothic. Your sister? She communicates you mostly as a ghostly greyish apparition via cut scenes. I wasn't expecting The Witcher's level of interaction, but every woman in every town need not threaten to call the guards when I approach. Because of the way the inventory screen is arranged - poorly, as is typical of the genre - dealing with vendors can be a huge hassle. The save-game menu isn't very intuitive either, when it comes to overwriting or deleting old saves. Definitely don't skimp on the saves, as the autosave function works on a timer rather than when you enter new areas. If you're still reading this, you are probably very patient, which is a good thing if you're going to get the most out of Two Worlds. It really is a good game if you don't mind the generic world and plot, but it takes some time to get used to the quirks and move past them to the good stuff. I like games where I can wander freely, and still get many hours out of the quests. This is definitely more open-ended than The Witcher or Fable, more on the scale of Gothic or Elder Scrolls, and there is more room for replaying due to the reputation system and its bearing on faction and quests. Basically, buy this if you have the time to dedicate to a huge game and are willing to work around the problems.

4Good game, couple of flaws
By Rinimand
I'm a gamer. This is a well made game. It's a bit linear as you have to do certain story parts to open up new areas. It does have replayability however, as you will pick one path and then try another path the second, third time. It's great to be a caster and attack a horde of orcs or a dragon with 8 conjured minions. I have primarily played a mage in this game up to a pretty high level. I did fighter for quite some time as well, but it gets repetitive and is actually tougher than the mage. Thief is useless. The game doesn't force you into one of these archetypes, you are free to mix / match skills, but a hybrid in this game is weaker than a pure character. The game is good enough that I bother to write a review so that others will try this game. At $5 it's a steal. Skip the $5 cappuccino and buy this game instead.Flaws: I ding this 1/2 star start for the magic card system, and 1/2 star for the flawed sneaking/thief system.1) Magic card system is weak. During combat, a caster is opening the magic window every few seconds to swap spell cards or enhancement cards. That said, the magic in this game is well thought out and looks great. I love firewalls!2) Item collection becomes tedious and at higher levels you just give up on it. Early in the game you almost obsess over it. Later, you ignore all but the most intriguing items.3) AI is weak. Mostly get bushwacked and charged. But, combat is interesting and looks great.4) Sneaking is useless. Take it from someone who primarily plays thief/rogues in games like PnP D&D, D&D Online, Everquest, Neverwinter Nights, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, you name it. I gave up on thief here after 1 hour.

3Flawed Gem
By N. Diamon
Let me clear the air right off. I do not own this edition of the game. I own the first PC edition. The only difference between the two is the addition of a few more multiplayer maps and options and the improvements in the 1.7 patch which can be downloaded for free if you own the previous version. For that reason, I will not be discussing the mutiplayer beyond what I have experienced in the original. This game got a pretty bad rap when it first came out for PC and 360 in August of '07. It was buggy, rough, and very prone to crashing. The multiplayer was an empty wasteland due to the poor connection issues and aimless gameplay.Fast forward to a year later. Is Two Worlds any good? Well, it's not a bad game. It's a surprisingly fun (but mindless) romp through thick euro-fantasy tropes and hack & slash gameplay.Your character wakes up after being attacked and having his sister kidnapped by ne'er-do-wells. You gird yourself in a gravelly voice and oversized armor and head out to chop your way through the countryside. That's about it for the story. It suffers from the normal complaints in the European low fantasy genre, namely that the VO work is stilted and hammy and the plotline makes little sense. But you didn't really pick this game up for the stirring script did you?The game shines in the implementation of a completely open world similar to Oblivion with simplistic action RPG combat. As you level up in your quest to rescue your sister and defeat the overdramatic Evil Force, you'll ramble over the landscape and trounce enemies using either magic or weaponry and your upgradeable skills. The skill system isn't quite as advanced as the one in Oblivion, but it's deeper than many other action RPGs. You'll definitely not be able to max out all the skills in a playthrough, so you'll have to allocate points wisely with each level. The loot is widely varied and very cool. You can upgrade your weapons and armor by imbuing them with gems that add various effects. In a very innovative move, you may keep adding the same type of gem to a previously upgraded item, so you can keep improving the stats on a low level piece of kit beyond the point at which you normally would trash it. You can also "meld" the same type of item to improve the base stats if you pick up a repeat of something you already have. This is something I wish more loot heavy games would do.It appears SouthPeak wisely took the picture of the protaganist astride the warhorse off the front of the game. Mounted travel and combat was a feature marketed in the prerelease of the game, which turned out to have all the attraction and practicality of building your own Model T Ford. Stay away from the horseback riding. You'll save yourself a lot of stress. The bugs have been ironed out for the most part. there are still a few quest glitches and random graphical bugs, but there's nothing too upsetting at this point. I haven't crashed yet since upgrading to the latest patch. If you play this game as a simple action RPG rather than some kind of epic roleplaying story, you'll have a blast.

Choose Alternative Hard Drives for Xbox

If you want to keep your Xbox more space without spending an arm and a leg for Xbox accessories, consider some of the economic options listed below. But first, if you are new to all this we need to cover some basic information. When you buy a hard drive instead of outside the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Microsoft provides, you'll need to lock or your Xbox will not start. You must be locked so that the BIOS (Basic Input / Output System), which begins to blow your Xbox code, unlock with a password. It is a security protocol for Microsoft to make it difficult for users to edit, copy files, or disk update the Xbox. There are some good programs that will help you lock your drive, ConfigMagic Evox, Xenium and XboxHDM. Okay, now for the hard drives.

One of the most popular companies with a long list of players to choose from Seagate. An internal 3.5-inch 250 GB Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, the storage capacity of the model number ST3200822A-RK 200 GB 7200 RPM and works. Tons of positive feedback on it runs cool and quiet and it is easy to lock. They have some good deals on Trader in December.

Western Digital, on the other hand, has been known to produce the most lockable drives, and WD Caviar WD1600BB is no exception. With 160GB of storage capacity and a speed of 7200 rpm, the reader will not fail to satisfy. Buffer size of 2MB is a bit small, but most owners are not positioned as a problem. Eide uses 40-pin, you can transfer data from the hard disk to other components faster than IDE.

Say you want enough storage to last you years, if this is the case, 1TB (one trillion bytes) Internal Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda (yes again) your answer. It is an impressive 32MB of buffer cache, tons more than you need, and it uses a SATA interface, the interface most there. This is a great option if you still want to buy new drives.

Last but not least, the WD Cavier Blue 250GB PATA drive, model number WD2500JB an excellent alternative to the dollar Microsoft Xbox 130 250GB hard drive provides. It has 8 MB of cache and spins at 7200 RPM. It also has a very good record locks successfully. The program most people use XboxHDM.

Again, if you are not sure how to mod your Xbox or your computer or green, there are many tutorials on the web that will tell you how. Now, go out, have fun and save money.

5Really, really not for kids, but Gouranga quintupled baby!
By D. Parvin
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (GTA:SA) is, simply put, a great game. The six month wait for a PC port was worth it; although still not state-of-the-art, if you've got the rig for it graphics are noticably improved over the PS2. I'm a bit biased having been addicted since the original GTA came out - Gouranga refers to the easter egg you get for taking out a line of hare krishnas in the original - but the game is probably the best of the series as the world is richer and the missions more fun. My only reservation is that the violence and plot here have no place anywhere near kids, but for adults this is the best of the genre and deserves 5 stars.GTA has fully evolved from a pure-action game in the original GTA to an RPG with a good deal of action in GTA:SA. The majority of the game revolves around completing missions rather than simply jacking cars and running over people as in the early versions. The good news is that the RPG works. Missions are funny but brutal. It's important to note this isn't the tamer, slightly cartoonish Scarface-inspired Vice City. Instead, this is the very nasty world of early 90's South Central LA with a gangbanger-influence and language that many will find disturbing. With the revelation that interactive softcore porn is included, this very much deserves the new AO rating. (All the infamous 'hot coffee' mod does is unlock some hidden but pretty rough sex simulations and take off the computer-generated clothes of those involved - if you're disturbed by the gangbanging the in-genre scenes will make it even worse.) One wonders if the rumor that TakeTwo leaked information about the hidden code to the hacking community as a marketing stunt is true - if so, it's massively backfired and it's hard to argue they don't deserve at least some criticism for at the very least not being far more upfront about its inclusion. Even before hot coffee this was pushing the upper limits of an M rating and probably deserved an AO one. Then again, any parent who let their kid near this game - or incredibly, a litigous grandmother buying this for an unsupervised 14 year old when M is clearly marked for 17 year olds - really isn't doing their job either as its incredibly obvious this is not a game for kids. Caveat emptor, and it looks like the AO version is about to become a collector's item.Regarding content, there are so many more things to do compared to even Vice City. The world is, in a word, huge. It takes at least 20 minutes to drive from one end of the world to another (although if you're creative you just jump the airport fence and fly a plane for 2 minutes instead). Sure, there are standard GTA missions, like mugging drug dealers and drive-bys. But there is a lot more. Want to play death from above? Complete a ton of missions and get the easter egg of a Hunter gunship that can blow anything in the game away. Want an insanely fast car? Don't steal one; go to the docks and import a Super GT. Want to show off your moves? Enter the lowrider contest or go dancing with a date. Where the change from action game to RPG is most noticeable is in the addition of skill-based character advancement. CJ needs to eat and be in shape, but more importantly needs experience with weapons if he wants to hit something besides his foot. It's not onerous by any means, but it's a noticeable difference. One other note for veteran GTA players: this is probably the first GTA in which you'll use your keyboard a bit. The shooting missions are easier with mouse control for targeting, although I definitely prefer my Logitech gamepad for driving. The PC port is clean although several of the PS2 cheats I tested don't work. Several things are better than the console versions. Besides making your own radio station from MP3s (although the GTA ads still air in between songs), graphics are improved. If you have the hardware to run it, high end tweaks like shadowing and draw distance (meaning you can actually decipher signs among other things) are nice. This isn't a showpiece game like Half Life 2 for your 45" LCD monitor by any means - the PS2 development still shows in a vaguely polygonish feel - but the port is a definite improvement over the consoles and the previous GTAs. (If Rockstar insists on an exclusive PS3 contract going forward, hopefully the 1080p PS3 will force improvements in the next game.) I like the special guest voices (like a corrupt Samuel L. Jackson) and the 5.1 surround in general, and have fortunately not experienced any of the numerous reported sound or running problems. (I'm running a 6800GT and a dual Opteron 246 setup which probably helps.)It's probably not the best PC game of the year based on the legacy limitations of developing this for the PS2, but it is a genre defining game and is a must play for anyone who likes being bad. Five stars.

5Great game
By S. W. Kanode
I hope amazon does not submit to the pressure to stop selling this game. With the recent change to the rating on this game it's making it very hard for ADULTS to find this great game. I'm tired of the retail industry thinking all games are suppose to be for kids. There are grown adults who enjoy playing games. These are the same adults that grew up with video games and now want games that reflect their age. The rating system is to educate people on the content of the game, not to punish the publisher by refusing to sell it. I don't want the retail industry telling me what I can and can't buy.

5I Just Have To Say Something.
By A Customer
If you're angry about the violent and sexual content in this game, there is one easy way to make it all go away......DON'T BUY THE FREAKING GAME!It says right on the front of the box, RATED M FOR MATURE, AGES 17 AND UP.If you buy this for your 9 year old and you catch him blowing up hookers, it's your own fault for buying it for him.And by the way, about the Hot Coffee mod...If your kid can go on the internet, search around enough, find the mod, download it, and install it, then he's probably been looking at porn already.

3One-off
By NuEngland
I call this game a one-off because after you do everything the first time you will probably be uninterested in doing so again. There are a lot of new features to this game but most of them are for the sake of your children. If you don't like having children lingering as such for days upon days--like myself--you won't get much use out of this pack.Shiny new stuff--one of the coolest aspects in this pack is all the new kid gadgets you'll accumulate. Playground stuff includes sandboxes, 3 types of tree houses, mechanical horses, spaceships, and cars the children can ride, a seesaw, slide, hopscotch court, and various children's toys.Clothes--The first thing I noticed about playing Sims 3, and I am relatively new as a Sims gamer, is the lack of children's clothes. With this expansion pack being geared toward children/teen years you'll find much improved in cute/adorable outfits for your toddlers. The teens have some very cool new additions too, along with appropriate hairstyle options.IMAGINATION--One of the biggest and most intriguing aspects of this game is how imaginative the creators have gotten. They've created a very rich world for your toddler, child, and teen that can make for lots of fun on the first go round. For instance, the tree houses are not just places where kids can climb up to and sit. They can host tea parties, play space pirates, ban boys or girls from coming up, play pranks or even sleep in the tree houses. Children can pretend to drive cars by just sitting on a couch, play royal over a court by standing on a chair, or have tea parties with their stuffed toys.Imaginary friends-- One of the best features included in this pack has got to be the imaginary friend. You'll receive a doll in a the mail from a long lost, relative who you had no part in creating once your child is born. Some people have said that their child never got a doll. I've had that happen, but then I also had a female Sim have fifteen children and all of her children got a doll so I think the odds are good. Anyway, the child must play with this doll OFTEN. As the child grows so does the doll. You will find out later the ways in which a teen or a young adult can actually turn this doll into a human. At some point this doll will start to walk around and interact with only the Sim child or young adult (other Sims cannot see this doll which is where the imaginary friend part comes into play). You can choose the sex of the doll so that when it is turned human it will be either male or female. Child Sims now grown into adults have built such a relationship with this doll--now turned human--that they could marry him or her and have an instant companion. Also, once human, dolls have the ability to change back into dolls. (The children of DTH can also be dolls)Activities: Besides the plethora of ways for children to play and be happy, teen Sims can now be taught to drive, and they can go to prom (you still can't see inside the school, though), date, throw parties when their parents are on vacation, teepee or egg neighbors houses, set pranks up in your own house, and graduate from high school directly after aging up to a young adult.new traits: I think there are two new traits: rebellious and nurturing.new professions: along with the nurturing trait Sims can now be babysitters. I tried it once. It's very time-consuming and your Sim can barely do anything (cook, clean, chat w/other sims) w/o having to pick up and put down children.adult stuff: Most of the the teen clothes can be doubled for adults as well. Adults can now have a midlife crisis--which sometimes includes cheating on their spouse O_o. Adults also get two new, fast, but relatively ugly designed sports cars. Adults can now ground their children or put them in time out. I once had a Sim put her teen son in the corner. They can also get married in style. Unfortunately you won't find any new wedding dresses. I think its part of a ploy to get you to buy some from the main site. You will get a additional generic wedding cake and wedding decor. As far as I know there is no option for honeymoons.School: You can send your child/teen Sim to boarding school where they will not only grow up but develop traits and skills according to where you send them. If you choose to keep your children at home you can sign them up for after school activities or more classes. The partying, the graduation, and the pranks all grew old fairly quickly for me but I still say Sims Generations is worth the price if its reasonable. Note: Amazon runs sells on an undecipherable schedule. I bought Generations for 13 and change but I see its now close to $40. I'd advise any buyers to wait for a price drop.

2Downloading is not for everyone
By Kelly Levy
I usually buy the game itself but I thought I would download it this time, Big Mistake! I'm not saying this would happen to everyone but for me it was disappointment after disappointment.I have a 15" MacBook Pro and all the specifications for this download including high-speed wireless internet, and the download took 6 hours! After waiting all day to play it, I go to install the game software and it tells me that the Sims 3 I have is not compatible with this game and that I have to download extra stuff. Well, I have the original Sims 3 and all the expansion packs, so I'm not sure what the issue is. So I have to download this new item and the download keeps crashing after about 30 minutes of downloading.Needless to say it has taken me all day to figure this out and it probably would have been easier for me to get the actual game and wait a day for shipping.I'm not saying this will happen to everyone, I mean it could have been a bad day for me. And like the review before me says: download times are different for everyone. Just don't go into the download purchase lightly.

4sims 3 generations
By britt
The Sims 3 generations is a pretty good game. It download pretty quickly and was easy to setup and install. The game provides a lot of cool items for kids and teens. However, as an adult there isn't really an improvement. This game is geared towards the younger generation in the sims. I would have liked to have seen more products for adults. Overall, the game is pretty fun.

    5Fantastic HD touch up
    By Chaz Ashley
Painkiller is a highly over looked game (untill Yahtzee reviewed it that is), what Painkiller is basically when you get down to it is a arcade-y style shooter with weapons that you've never used before.A spinning blade melee weapon/also fires a laser, a shotgun with a freeze alt fire, a gun that shoots shurikens and lightning, a gun that shoots saw blades and a soul beam that can control enemies, a stake gun that fires basically tree sized stakes and who's alt-fire is a grenade, a rocket launcher with a minigun alt-fireand more.Seriously there's not many games that play like this and NONE that has weapons like this, except maybe the original painkiller. The story isn't worth mentioning, the enemies swarm you in big dumb hordes (huge variety of enemies to boot)So this is the HD touch up, it's great, very very great not many remakes can boast that I think. It has NONE of the expansions from the original but honestly most of them were garbage anyway.

    1What a TRASH!
    By Froy Cardenas
This game is a joke! this is a buggy-filled sack of sh***t. This remake has damaged the original version of Painkiller. AI enemy is dumber or the dumbest I have ever seen in a video game, you can see jumping skeletons, minions bumping against each other, ghouls stuck in walls... Terrible game!! Don't trash your money on this release, you better off spending your time watching a movie.

    2Far Cry 2 - Meh Edition
    By J. Star
Far Cry 2 is OK. It's nothing to write home about, though. My issues with the game:1. - Guns - Who did the firearm research on this game? Some guns, like the AK-47, are completely mirror image. Some, like the HK G3, are just wrong. (Charging handle and ejection port both on the left side? Not in this reality.)2. - Damage - Shooting someone in the chest with 10-20 rounds from the PKM to kill them? Zzzzz.3. - No prone? Come on, is this the 90s?4. - Enemies can see me in the dead of night, and know where I am, even when I am in the bushes and using a silencer. Hmmm...5. - Repetative missions - Wow, let's do the same missions over and over and over and over and over...6. - Respawning badguys. Just cleared that guard post? Funny that all the guards are back 3 minutes later...7. - "Most realistic fire ever!" - with fire graphics that look completely unrealistic.Give this property back to Crytech. Ubisoft did a half-baked job at best.EDIT: Also, the DRM this game installs broke the Burn feature of Windows Media Player on my PC. Buyer Beware.EDIT 2: SecuRom has a program on their website that will allow you to remove their DRM from your machine. However, it will be reinstalled - without warning or notification - the very next time you play a game with SecuRom DRM. If - like me - you have issues with burning CDs after installing one of these game, you pretty much have to uninstall the DRM anytime you want to burn. Convenient, huh?

1Far Cry 2 is Far off the Mark
    By C. Smith
Id like to preface my review by stating that in no way has my opinion of the game been swayed by the DRM used for piracy protection by Ubisoft. This review is solely in regards to the gameplay itself. With my pure enjoyment of Far Cry and Crysis, I was extremely excited about the release of this game. Unfortunatly when I began playing the game, I became more and more disappointed as I played. In fact, if it werent for the graphics, this would easily be considered an instant bargin bin title.I have so many gripes about this game that Im not quite sure where to begin, so I will start with my biggest one... the firefights. You have so much against you from the very beginning that it is extremely difficult to find them enjoyable. In fact you feel as though you are being punished just for taking the mission. Your gun will continuously jam. You have malaria, so in the middle of a gunfight you may need to pop a pill to get over it (everything turns yellow and fuzzy). If your health gets low (and it will... continually from all the sharpshooters they have in Africa) you must first pull the bullet out, then.. you must heal yourself. I must ask... why?? I suppose it was to add tension, but only succedes in being frustrating. You will die often... not because you get overwhealmed by the (incredibly stupid) AI, but because of a gun jam, having to heal yourself with a two step process or because you get a malaria outbreak. As I get off that rant, I invite you to another. Lets investigate the whole "sandbox, free roam, open world..." direction in which the developers decided to take with this sequel. First off the compass is horrible and the map is even worse. Not because they are a bad concept... they work extremely well in GTA and games of the like. The problem is, your objective is sooooo far away that even when you pull out your map, because it isnt a full map, all you see is the general direction you are supposed to be going and not able to pinpoint the best route to take or where exactly your objective is. This is compounded by the fact that you hit several checkpoints (more on these later) that ensue a "forced" firefight... and I believe I already explained how much fun they are. It will take you at least 10 minutes to get from point A to point B because of this. Rediculous. Now, remember the checkpoints. These lovely roadblocks are apparently set up by guerillas (no... not gorillas) who attack you when you come close. I guess that makes sense, however, the frustrating part is after you destroy a checkpoint, they respawn so every time you drive by, you get attacked again and again and again. If you try to blast through in your vehicle, a car chase ensues.... sounds like fun right? Wrong, because no matter how fast you are going, they magically appear behind you and if they shoot your vehicle 3 or 4 times, it stalls. And I bet you thought the engine was in the front of the vehicle. So, because of this you end up getting out of your vehicle and... you guessed it, a firefight begins... malaria.... damn... gun jammed... shot need health... pull out the bullet... use medi.... dead. Finally the vehicles themselves. For some reason, the geniuses at Ubisoft only give a 1st person view of driving... so you try to drive, look at map and compass at the same time and because the vehicle handles so poorly you hit a boulder and the vehicle stalls out, so you get in front of the vehicle and fix it. Get back in and hit a lovely checkpoint further up.There are several other nuances in the game like no checkpoints... well theres lots of those, but I mean autosave points... so hit F5 ALOT or your 10 minute trip from point A to point B can take you 30 minutes. There isnt really much of a story here to be found either, so you really just find yourself doing side missions... even the main missions seem like side missions which dont give you much of a feeling of accomplishment.I realize I have been on quite a rant, and most of my reviews are not as negative or sarcastic as this. As a matter a fact I dont think I have given a single star review to anything before... but this game definitly deserves it. As I attempt to leave with a positive remark, I am at a loss. I could mention the graphics, however theyre really not better than the original Far Cry... and I can max them out on my machine.I was extremely disappointed and feel my $60 was just wasted. Ive played the game for about 11 hours, and cannot bring myself to finish it... and thats an extreme rarity for me. With all the great games coming out this year, spend your money on something else.

1Disappointing and Boring as a PC Game
    By PrinterPal
Clearly the game was designed for the console market with PC as an afterthought during development. Although there are some interesting aspects, it ultimately is just a boring game on the PC platform with minimal replay value. Games are judged relative to the alternatives available for that platform. In the PC area it falls down hard.Start with the aspect ratios the game screens take are very TV/Console rather than PC monitor oriented. There is no back-story and no reason for me to care why my character succeeds or fails. I care as much about him as he does about his employers. My character is more durable than his weapons. So while he can pull bullets out of his body with his teeth and repair almost any device, he is incompetent when it comes to cleaning, repairing and maintaining the tools of his trade - his weapons.Ubisoft's rationale for no predators is that it would upset the ecosystem. Lame excuse -- More likely either cost or time reduction in coding. Adding animal threats as NPCs who only respond to specific classes of players or NPCs within a certain radius is fairly simple to do and would improve the game play value. The damage model needs refinement. My character has terminated NPCs at 15 yards with a single spray from the shotgun and yet 5 or 6 center mass shots with an AK-47 (whose ammo is rifle loads, not pistol loads like a submachine gun) at the same distance doesn't even knock the NPCs down. At close quarters scattershot can be the uber-weapon, but over distance it's gonna be a lot less lethal.I can't tell if the endless slogging through the veldt is a cover for weak AI coding, a way to extend the "playing" time of the game or an infomercial from Ubisoft aimed at marketing their Dunia engine to other developers by demonstrating the effects you can create. For me, it quickly became downright annoying. Not much to say about DRM that hasn't already been said. Their EULA is very specific. Ubisoft will install DRM code on your PC. They will require you to register it online. They will require the CD to be in the machine. They own the software and they are not accountable for any problems any of this cause for you. Your rights are 100% subordinate to theirs. If you don't like that you must send it back to them before you perform any activations. About the only thing you don't have to do is send them a copy of your driver's license and a DNA sample. But stay tuned...Since software DRM is totally ineffective against pirates I can only assume that the ultimate objective of excessive DRM is to kill the PC game market and drive everyone to consoles. It makes good business sense as it's easier and cheaper to develop games for consoles and no PC games means one less SKU to stock and track.Bottom line...It may do okay as a console game given its competition on those platforms, but as a PC game, it's just too boring and console-centric to be worth buying. If you are really curious about a game based in what was a very promising location, wait a couple of months and pick it up for $9.99 in a jewel case.
