This video game has everything on paper; a post-apocalyptic world, challenging parkour-y gameplay, and a lone hero with an interesting story. Sadly, that's about where it stops. I won't go too much into detail in regards to the gameplay (Youtube can do a much better job) but instead would like to discuss the pros and cons of this game, and finally tell you whether I would recommend spending money on it.PROS- Beautiful, indie-looking environment. HDR is fantastic!- A rather unique concept and gameplay- It has parkour/assassin's creed-type climbing and movements- Realistic down to how many bullets you find and can use- Provides a decent amount of challenge, both in skill and cerebrallyCONS- VERY linear. Almost no straying from set line, and if you do, you're going to get sick of dead-end alleys.- You can only save at checkpoints. I hate this in ANY game, and some of the gameplay is mundane enough that I do NOT want to go back to a checkpoint save.- As mentioned above, some of the gameplay can become quite mundane, especially if you make a mistake and have to backtrack/restart.- The game has crashed on me several times, both on the PC AND on the XBox360, see above ad nauseum.- 3rd Person perspective is difficult coming from FPS (not considered in my rating, just a personal note)Really, it comes down to your expectations. Coming from fast-paced, heavily crowded apocalyptic games such as L4D, the game seems a little too casual to me. I don't always need a million things to look at, but the combination of long video sequences and having to backtrack if you mess up, really pushes this game over the edge of playable for me. This isn't the post-apocalyptic, lone-survivor game I was hoping it would be, and in that respect I can't really recommend it. You may enjoy it, but I certainly feel as though there is a lot that can be improved upon. A generous three stars...

"I Am Alive" is a post-apocalyptic survival video game by Ubisoft.I downloaded my copy from 'Steam' and it was priced at $14.99.The Game:About a year after the event our survivor finally returns to his home city with the hope of finding his wife and daughter. He discovers that although he may be alive he's definitely not alone. Some thoughts on "I Am Alive"...1.) an incredibly intriguing trailer... it was the main reason I decided to buy the game.2.) as most things are covered with dust, nearly everything is shaded in grayish tones. Anything with color was done in muted textures. This was very effective in giving a very real post apocalyptic feel.3.) 3 degrees of difficulty4.) very linear movement, you can't go far off the designated path before you hit that invisible wall. Really makes for clumsy movement and hinders game-play.5.) movement is done from the 3rd person perspective, while aiming or shooting your gun is from the 1st person.6.a) the first segment involves crossing a bridge where you have to run, jump and climb. i.e. a platform type of game.6.b) the second part takes you to your old apartment. But on the way there you encounter several hostile individuals. These fights are fought with the use of keystrokes that must be accurately timed. The only exception is where you use your gun (if your lucky enough to have any ammo).7.) Check-point game saves. UGH! After many tries I finally reached the goal (2nd section) of arriving at my old apartment and then started what I assumed was the 3rd part. I stopped the game for a while and exited to desktop... but when I restarted I was place at the beginning of the 2nd 'get to your apartment' section again. All that time and effort wasted... so much for Check-point only saves!.Conclusion:A game that appears to have a significant portion of run, jump and climb features. The confrontations are managed with properly timed keystrokes. If you like these features in a game then you may really enjoy 'I Am Alive'.The fact that the game could only saved at specific checkpoints made me decide very quickly I could easily live without this game.To me it was a game where the video trailers looked much better than the game actually played.2 1/2 Stars.Ray Nicholson (cujo)

By Dennis
Firstly, I have this for my Xbox360, so the controls are so much better than what I'd expect on a PC version. The game-play it self is very reminiscent of Resident Evil, and Assassin's Creed. Most of the game consists of running, helping people("mini quests") avoiding threats, killing off threats, and monitoring your Stamina. Sounds just like Assassin's Creed 1.This game is very difficult; if you're looking for a game to just sit down and enjoy without much effort, try Easy mode, but the other modes are a lot more difficult. The game IS short though, I beat the game in roughly 15 hours on the hardest difficulty, excluding retries of course. There's a lot of trial and error involved, so it's not uncommon to constantly die, and restart over and over. I'm one of those guys who likes a challenge and if I can't get through a section the first time around, I'm going to keep trying. As for the mini-quests, you do them along the way as you travel to your ultimate destination. You help other survivors in the city, whether it's finding specific supplies, or helping them out of a nasty situation. This is purely for those who wish to have full completion of the game and is not necessary for actually getting to the end of the game.I think the most interesting part of the game is how the game is the story. I'm sad that the game got scrapped by Ubisoft and made into a "partial" game, instead of a full game like it was meant to be. It's very fun to play, though frustrating at times. For 15 dollars, you can't really go wrong.
