By Moviedude
A major problem with the tower defense genre is that it lacks a sense of action- you usually plop down defenses in such a way as to trap enemies in a maze of doom then wait to see the results. Because of this, the genre can start to feel a little samey, and a little dull as well. DotA style gameplay adds powerful heroes to the mix, giving players something to do while the endless parade of enemies swarms their static defenses, but the few attempts to blend shooter gameplay with tower defense have felt a little weak. One recent effort, Sanctum, features enemies that do not even attack the player hero.Iron Brigade then is a refreshing change. In fact, early in the game, you would be hard pressed to identify it as tower defense at all. You can place all manner of automatic guns and force fields, yes, but the majority of the firepower comes from your Mobile Trench, a fortress on legs that you can outfit with all manner of cannons and machine guns. There is little channeling of enemies as a strategic element, and enemies will freely attack you over going straight for your base, making Iron Brigade feel more like a regular shooter with static defenses. As a result hardcore TD fans may be disappointed, but DotA enthusiasts and shooter fans will be right at home. The visuals of the game are simplistic but artistically well-done, and it's a Double Fine game so the writing is hilarious. There isn't a ton of story, but you'll enjoy the oddball characters and their over-the-top manly-man hero and mad scientist behavior. The only real complaint I have with this game is that the menus used to configure your trench between missions are rather convoluted- it can be hard to tell what tab is just a display of your current weapon, vs a clickable available weapon, and buying and selling gear is far more complicated than it needs to be. But once the fighting starts, you're in for some solid casual shooting fun with just enough TD elements to feel fresh.Coop is available via Internet. As far as I know there is no PVP.PROS-All the fun oddity you would expect from Double Fine-Slick Presentation-Innovative gameplayCONS-Levels themselves are a little simplistic-Menus are hard to live with-Requires GFWL; If you choose to activate the Amazon copy on Steam you will have TWO layers of DRM

And 0 support from it's makers. The game has memory leaks and needs a patch, but will never get one for PC.Even on high end rigs, the game will slow down and become so framey(choppy)it becomes almost unplayable. And forget playing with a friend because it gets worse.Tim and Double Fine should be ashamed at this shoddy, non-supported console port to PC.

By Christopher
Sadly uses Games For Windows Live and the multiplayer is quite buggy. Many dropped games and connection issues. A real shame since the gameplay is decent.
